Ford's Pairie Berry Farm

W. Arthur Smith is second from the right,
I wrote on back, Ford's Pairie Berry Farm.

Since there two little girls in this pictures, I assume it is Tricia and Janice, as I
remember picking berrys at the farm.  Grandma Smith would have us go down an
isle that had already been picked as we ate too many.  I love berries to this day.  Janice

It would be interesting to know if my Dad used these killers in his berry farm.  [Link to article]  I don't remember him doing so, but he would try anything. I just remember the well he had, and the pump was a 6 cylinder motor up-side-down, with three rods fastened to the three pumps, with three water pumps on one line of well. It had two transmission to slow it down for the house, but in watering he'd shift up, but if you got it to fast things would start jumping around in the pump house, so then you had to shift down. We got water from that well next door as well.

He probably had the first rototiller home made, he had a welder friend that helped him make the stuff. He was always making something that no one had yet.

He got an old model 'T" Ford truck, and had the front and rear axles shortened so it would go between the berry rows, it had two tranys to slow it down for cultivating. Kids like to drive it. Neighbor kids came by too. The pastors son across the road like to work for Dad and drove it.

Do you remember it Janice?

Yes, I remember the berry farm, and a noise coming from the pump house that Grandma couldn't find, and it turned out to be a Frog!

Also remember eating the berries, and being scarred on Trick or Treat night, and hiding behind Grandma's skirts!

I remember riding in the old pickup driving to deliver the berries to the market or place where they went.  And the Thanksgivings were wonderful!  With Grandma cooking on that old wood stove, what smells & memories!

Thanks for this story, Janice
