Conservation Education

The Threads of History Project has been fortunate to receive the advice of many textile conservation experts. They helped us develop clever cost-saving alternatives to expensive conservation materials. We enjoy sharing these solutions with others who own and love antique textiles.

To that end we have printed a booklet, "Caring for Antique Textiles" developed by sponsors Fanny & Vera. This booklet details our budget friendly methods of preserving historic textiles using easily found materials and simple care strategies. Copies are available for $12.50 (includes shipping) by mail, please send check or money order to:

Trinity County Historical Society, Attn: Sue
PO Box 333
Weaverville, CA 96093

All proceeds benefit the Threads of History textile conservation project.

This class will cover cleaning methods, storage solutions, display strategies and conservation tips that will keep your heirlooms around for future generations.

See examples of well-preserved textiles and view our "Gallery of Horrors"--quilts damaged by the most common threats to textiles. Learn how to avoid similar disasters in your collection so that your textiles will last for generations.

This workshop is available at the museum by prior arrangement for a donation of only $25. Travel stipend added for out of county presentations. Contact the Museum at 530-623-5211 or via email at jake@trinitymuseum.org to schedule a presentation.
