Area Attractions

Trinity County, California is most widely known for spectacular scenery, snow-clad Alpen peaks, uncrowded lakes, pristine wild rivers and crisp, clean air. This unspoiled area is free of the hussle and hassle of developed resort communities and contains 3 National Wilderness Areas within its borders.

Gold was first discovered here in 1848. By 1850, the county was overrun with sourdoughs prospecting for riches. Many artifacts of the gold rush era can be seen in the J. J. Jackson Museum and Historic Park in Weaverville. The Joss House State Park in Weaverville provides a rare glimpse into the lives of Chinese miners during that tumultuous period. The Weaverville Fire Museum offers artifacts and equipment from one of California's oldest Volunteer Fire Departments.

Trinity County also has a thriving art community. Enjoy the downtown murals painted by art students from our local high school. Visit the Highland Art Center and Trinity County Arts Council Gallery in Weaverville.
