Servant Scrubbing Pots

This servant's garb is very plain and is guiltless of hoops.  She wears no jewelry and has a plain, if rather mussed hairstyle.  Women with few skills had little choice of occupation, and many went "into service" as servants.  "Mother McBryde" had the misfortune to be an immigrant and a widow, thus settling for menial employment.

This garb is modeled by Sue Rhodes and was homemade for less than $10.00!  The dress was made of $1.00 per yard sale fabric, and the apron is the original "$1.00, 1 hour apron" featured on our site.  (Underneath is the $1.00 petticoat)
