Located
in a scenic and secluded mountain valley, the Hayfork Valley has always attracted
self-sufficient people who formed tight-knit communities. This heritage of diversity,
industry and neighbors helping one another is worthy of celebration and remembrance
Local craftspersons and reenactors from across Northern California join their efforts to bring history alive. They present the sights, sounds, tastes and activities of Hayfork's early days. Interactive demonstrations give you the opportunity to try your hand at the skills needed to supply the necessities of life in olden days. Special presentations let you hear voices from the past tell their stories.
Try your hand at gold panning, send telegraph messages, start a fire without matches, make a corn husk doll, do laundry the old-time way or stitch on a quilt. Feel how cool it is inside a bark house, watch the blacksmith at work and see how logging was done with real horse power. Hear the story of Hayfork's early residents told as only they can tell it.. Learn also how folks had fun with toys and games powered only by imagination. View a melodrama and cheer for the hero, then boo the villian.
Saturday, May 12, the event is open to the public from the hours of 10AM to 4PM. Bring the entire family for a fun afternoon. See the Event Schedule for samples of activities and demonstrations.
Friday May 11, is a School Day Event exclusively for children from area schools. Students spend the day learning about the history of our remote area through living history and hands-on activities.
This event was initiated by Logan Moore as a senior project at Hayfork High School and has continued through the support of his family and the community of Hayfork. Join us this year, and see why this event is growing in attendance and popularity each year!
