Suo Gan Suo Gan is a majestic Welsh Lullaby showcased in the movie "Empire of the Sun". Suo Gan - Boy Choir The above Real Player link is from The Martin T Page. Click on his Boy Choir link, you will get two means of listening to Suo Gan...Real Player & MP3. I linked you to the Real Player version. This site is special because the Boy Choir actually sings on these links! (Note: The MP3 version is slightly shorter, foregoing the beginning verse. However, it might be more clear than the Real Player version - which is pretty clear as it is.)Other Info Anthony Way. Fathermagazine.com page with photo & audio clip of the young man who sings soloist. Suo Gan. This page has the words in Welsh & English, plus a melody. From Rick Koop's MGV Harmonia & Music Archive Page. Make sure you check out his fantastic Folk Song index page. Here's another special (words & melody) from this nice site: Oh Danny Boy. ************** I got a special kick out of the American Civil War songs at Rick Koop's site. I didn't know that The Yellow Rose of Texas was a popular Confederate Army marching song. Also, finally found the words (with melody) to Bonnie Blue Flag (there's also a Union version.) Here's the link to the 72nd New York Volunteer Infantry Civil War Re-enactor group I joined for two days late Spring 1999. Has much history on unit plus photo* of the guys I fought with. I watched the first battle Saturday morning, took a tour of their camp, and was IN the second battle that afternoon and both battles Sunday! (They loaned the equipment & gave couple hours training.) Boy, THAT was an experience. First time ever used a muzzle loading rifle. Confusion running around in tightly packed formation, spilling real gun powder on my hand trying to load on the move. Must have been real Hell in real Civil War. Yet, I got better by second day! ______________ * For a second I thought I was "Steve Shaw" (misspelled last name) in the photo. Special Treat! Charlotte Church Sings Suo Gan. A one minute Real Player video version! (May take a minute or two to download.) From Joel Ware's Review of Charlotte Church. (Note: 1/4/00 Video works on my IE browser, but not my Netscape browser. Don't know why.) The Problem As you can see, I really love this majestic melody. But it is wasted as a lullaby. The lyrics need to be rewritten for a truly Christian hymn. It has already been tried. This link (apparently associated with the Osmond family, site has lyrics/melodies for other hymns) rewrote Suo Gan as a Christmas hymn. I might give it a crack. | HOME | |
