Lord, to whom shall we go? Anti-Catholics are constantly entreating us Catholics to "come out of her"...meaning the Whore of Babylon/Holy Catholic Church. The problem, however, is that even if they could prove that the Holy Catholic Church were wrong, they cannot point out which Church, Denomination, Sect or Cult is the "true Church" to which we should turn. (See Nos. 17 & 18 of my Conclusions, Observations & Meandering Ramblings) "Lord, to whom shall we go?" John 6:68. I have heard that the January 1998 report of the United Nations Center for Religious Studies listed Christianity as consisting of over 27,000 denominations. Pending confirmation of that information, I have listed some of the many, many options we Catholics have should we decide to come out of falsehood. :) ******************** Confirmation! 23,000 or More Protestant Denominations: A Myth of Catholic Apologetics or Documented Fact? Anglican ~ Episcopalian The faith & practice of these groups can be very "Catholic", and some (possibly most) would consider themselves Catholic rather than Protestant. It's a shame. (Note: I got the Ind-Movement.org link from Anglicansonline. It lists more than just Anglican Churches) |

Baptist Just heard a good joke. A shipwreck on a desert island strands 2 Catholics, 2 Anglicans and 2 Baptists. After a while the Catholics
start St Mary's Church. Some of these groups do not consider themselves Protestant, rejecting any notion that they are descended through the historic Catholic Church. |

Church of God I'm not certain about the sub-grouping here. In his article, The Mark of the Beast: What is It?, Garner Ted Armstrong apparently thinks of Protestants as the Harlot Daughters of the Catholic Church. He also apparently denies the Trinity. These doctrines have apparently been corrected by the Brief History of the Worldwide Church of God Take your pick. |

Pentecostal The UPC is non-Trinitarian. It and various "Oneness", "Jesus Only", "Holiness" & "Apostolic" Churches hold to the ancient heresy of Modalism. See their Beliefs page (60 ?'s on the Godhead). This article, the Trinity & Paganism by UPC minister M.F. Blume (here's his homepage), shows their view of Trinitarians. The IPHC is Trinitarian. So is the CofG, IO. Some Catholic sources on "Oneness" & non-Trinitarian groups: |

Non-Denominational In my opinion, there is no such thing. All such groups constitute their own denomination. I suspect this is how the UN comes up with 27,000(+) groups. Having apparently grown frustrated with all of the denominational conflicts, they seem to want everyone to give up their current beliefs...and accept theirs. They seem to represent Christianity at its lowest common denominator, with their particular view depending much upon their pastor. They can be small groups or large mega-Churches. They appear to reject both Catholicism & historic Protestantism. Consequently, they might be termed a second Reformation. They can be some of the
most anti-Catholic. See I'll attempt to list some representative groups. |

Churches
of Christ 1800's sought to return to perceived glory days of New Testament Church. Claim to be the true Christian Church. Don't consider selves Protestant; are "non -denominational" and apparently sometimes "just Christians." The Churches of Christ are apparently the largest group, but there are others...some are spin-offs. Apparently can be aggressively anti-Catholic. See this Catholic site: In Search of Apostolic Christianity: The Church of Christ and the Catholic Church Compared. Here's their homepage: The Saint Enoch Foundation The CofC web ring contains much info on CofC beliefs. |

More Listings Can't list every denomination out there. So I'll begin linking to other lists. Should have groups I don't. |
