| About This Site |
I discovered
religion-on-the-web in approximately September 1998 while
researching bulletin boards for a business project. I was
appalled by the amount of Protestant anti-Catholicism
throughout the web. I was also heartened by the discovery
of the many wonderful Catholic sites out there defending
the faith. My greatest internet pleasure is discovering
new Catholic sites. The purpose of this site is not to convert Protestants to the Catholic Faith. I don't have the talent for that. Rather, my purpose and hope is to help strengthen fellow Catholics from those aggressive, proselytizing groups who appear at Catholic doorsteps for no other purpose than to lead Catholics out of the Holy Catholic Church. INOCULATE THE FAITHFUL from the wolves, so to speak. I will try to expose the blatant propaganda techniques used to proselytize Catholics and show how Catholics might resist these efforts. As such, this site is written for fellow Catholics. More effective, however, would be to make every Catholic aware of the many wonderful Catholic apologetics sites out there on the web. Single individuals, families or groups of laymen write most of these sites. Even the humblest site has a nugget of gold. With access to these apologetics sites, we Catholics can see the wonderful strength of our Catholic Faith standing firm under full assault by the World. Many sites also contain information on the proselytizing groups most likely to appear on our doorsteps. When that inevitable knock on the door comes, we can just bring up on our computer screens that particular group and our responses. Another thing we might do is pass out literature as part of our own evangelization campaign. We might go about this in several ways:
Pillar of Fire; Pillar of Truth This is the online sample of perhaps the best overall booklet we might use in our evangelization efforts. You may purchase this booklet at Catholic Answers. With our own literature handy, when someone at our door hands us their literature we can immediately hand them ours! (That alone will probably take them aback. :-) An example of what I have in mind is contained in this article from EWTN's "Apologetics" Document Library: How My Parish Fought Off An Invasion A Cautionary Note! Although this site currently focuses on those aggressive proselytizing groups within Protestantism that target Catholics, they form only a small fraction of the World's anti-Catholicism. Probably far more dangerous to the Catholic Faith are secularism, materialism, religious indifference, false ecumenism, liberalism, political correctness, "Hollywood" & our own T.V.'s, all of which oppose the Catholic Faith to one degree or another. Keep these forces in mind, as they are probably more dangerous in the long term than that knock at your front door. Thanks...and thank you for visiting! Stephen P. Haws
