Configuring Netscape for additional email accounts

Netscape Communicator (Netscape 4.0 and above, not the Netscape Navigator 4.x standalone)  handles multiple email addresses by using 'Profiles'. Each profile contains a users individual email settings. These instructions are designed to teach you how to create new Netscape Communicator profiles.

Click start, then point to programs.

Point to 'Netscape Communicator', then 'Utilities', then 'User Profile Manager'.

Click the 'New' button.

Click 'Next'.

Enter the name you want associated with the email address under 'Full Name'. Next enter the Email address of the additional account. Click Next.

You may change the 'Profile Name'. This is the name that will let you tell this profile apart from the rest of the profiles you have configured in Netscape. Click Next.

Enter 'mail.shasta.com' in the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:' box. Click Next.

Enter the username of the email address in the 'Mail server user name:' (The first part of the address, without the '@shasta.com'). Enter 'mail.shasta.com' for the 'Incoming Mail Server' Box.

Enter 'news.shasta.com' in the 'News (NNTP) server:' box. Click Finish.
 

Once you click 'Finish', Netscape will launch with the new profile.

If you have Netscape configured with more than one profile, it will start with a window that looks like the one above.


You can click the menu drop down window to choose between profiles. The 'Interstar Network Services' profile contains your original email address, the new profile you created has all the necessary settings to retrieve email for your new address. If you want to switch between addresses. You must entirely close Netscape, and then re-start it with the appropriate profile.
