Dyslexia

What is the reason I have added Dyslexia as a cause of mine?? Let me tell you.  My son, Andrew, is dyslexic.  He struggles everyday in his education to learn.  I fought for 3 years to have my son tested for a learning disability knowing from experience why my son was having such difficulties in school.  When I finally convinced the school that he needed help, extra help, they did the test.  And yes the results came back as expected my son is dyslexic.
His learning disability has caused him some self esteem problems.  Feelings that he never can be as good as the other kids.  Mind you, my son over excels in mathematics.  But to see him struggle to read the simplest book is heartfelt.  He doesn't want to be reading the baby books, as he calls them, when everyone else in his class is enjoying Harry Potter.
Now that I finally have him in special classes for his reading he has improved greatly but each and every day is a struggle.  Why you ask?? Let me try to explain some of what happens when you are dyslexic.

A dyslexic person doesn't see words with the letters in order.  The words can jump around on them.  The words and letters and seem hazy.  The words lines on the page could be seen backwards and mirrored to some.  Have you ever tried to read looking in a mirror with the page upside down.  Let me tell you try it some time.
Because, of these problems, could you even imagine trying to remember how a word is spelt.  Each time you saw it, it might look differently to you.

Another important thing to remember is that dyslexia tends to run in families.  Which is so true in mine.  My younger sister, Holly, is so severely dyslexic that they needed to teach here sign language to help teach her to spell and read.  She would learn better with physical visuals.  This is a case with allot of people that have dyslexia.  She would have a radio on when she read and that would help her also.  They have found that some find that certain colors covering their  pages help them focus on the letters better.

Please take some time to learn about Dyslexia.  You to may have a child struggling and acting out.  And you are unsure why.  Dyslexia may be why.....
